| "The Best
Way to Fight Fires is to Prevent Them!" |
 |
In late 1996, the fire departments
in Custer County raised funds to purchase a 32' Fire Safety House.
The Fire Safety House uses heated doors, smoke, operating smoke
detectors, fire escapes and other props to provide realistic training to
youngsters kindergarten through sixth grade, and life skills and
baby-sitting classes to middle and high school students. |
| Teachers prepare students for the visit
to the fire safety house by incorporating fire prevention into their
curriculum during the month of October (Fire Prevention Month).
Since the implementation of a structured fire prevention plan in
1995, the total number of fire runs has decreased each year.
|

|
| In addition to programs at
the area schools, the Clinton Fire Department also provides in-service
training to hospitals, nursing homes, daycares and other businesses.
